Parish Reopening

Dear Parishioners,

I would like to update you on the current state of reopening our parish church. Back in June we were certified to open for public prayer, funerals, and the sacraments of Baptism and Reconciliation with a limit of 10 people in the church at a time. Today I am happy to announce we have been certified to move on to Phase 2 of the Archdiocese’s multi-phased reopening plan which will allow us to reopen for public Mass starting this weekend (July 11th and 12th).

The first weekend we are limiting attendance to 50 people per Mass, this will go up to 200 people per Mass in the following weeks. Everyone must register prior to Mass either online (via link on stjohnfisherparish.net or by calling the rectory 773-445-6565. When you return for Mass you will notice a number of things will look different. Everyone will sanitize their hands upon entering and before receiving Holy Communion and masks are required throughout the Mass. Entrance to the Church shall be through the main entrance on Fairfield only. Please note that the Cardinal’s decree suspending the obligation to attend Sunday Mass is still in effect.

I know this time has been hard for a variety of reasons. For Catholics the Eucharist is the source and summit of our Faith, and not being able to receive Christ in the Eucharist and worship together as a community has been a great spiritual hardship for us all.

Starting July 11th, our worship schedule shall be:

Weekend Masses: Saturday 4pm; Sunday 8am & 11am (note new time)

Daily Mass: Monday, Wednesday Friday: 8:15am

6:30 Communion Services will not resume at this time

Confession: Saturday 3:00—3:45pm

Prayer and Adoration: Tuesday and Thursday: 4:30-7:00pm

I realize that all this seems strange to us: reservations, face masks, hand sanitizing, etc., but this is how we must operate for the near future, and possibly longer, to reduce the risk of contracting or spreading COVID-19. I ask for your cooperation and understanding as we continue this process of reopening our church. I pray that the Blessed Mother shall keep you close to her Immaculate Heart and Christ, the Divine Physician, will grant you serenity and peace of heart. St. John Fisher, pray for us!

We are pleased to report that our Parish Office re-opened fully on Monday July 6th. Our new hours are:

Monday through Friday 9:00am-7:00pm

Saturday 9:00am-4:00pm

Sunday 9:00am-12:00Noon

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Ken Budzikowski

Pastor, St. John Fisher Church
